Volleyball coach slips from platform, dies

Sunny Thomas, coach of the Southern Railway volleyball team, died after he slipped from the additional platform under construction at Moore Market Complex (MMC) and fell on the railway track around 7.30 p.m. on Sunday.

Mr. Thomas (54), had just seen off his friends who had left in Trivandrum Mail at Chennai Central.

Investigating Railway Protection Force policemen said he sustained injuries on his head and died instantly.

He was working as head clerk at the pass section for retired railway employees. According to sources in Railways, he represented India (junior) in the 1980s.

He had been coaching the Southern Railway volleyball team for 15 years.
