Vocational awards conferred

The Rotary Club of Chennai Infocity conducted the Vocational Service Awards ceremony on Friday where awards were conferred on people excelling in their respective fields.

Ms. Valli Subbiah who runs the Kids Central School was presented the ‘Professional Excellence Award for Education’. She coordinates with the heads of balwadis in other districts and gives them simple educational programmes that may help the children in their respective centres.

“The purpose of such programmes is make education a joyful experience for children,” she said.

Raju Venkatraman of MEDALL Healthcare whose aim is to make diagnostic centres available to the underprivileged sections of the society was given the ‘For the Sake of Honour Award’. “Having travelled to many places down south including Aruppukottai, Aranthangi and Marthandam, I have seen that people live with much less money than what we spend for a couple of hours,” he said.

While Dr. Ramakrishnan Nagarajan of NITRA Institute of Sleep Sciences was given ‘Professional Excellence Award for Medicine’, squash player Aparajitha Balamurukan was presented with the ‘Young Achiever Award’.
