VIT University's knowledge carnival from September 17

Innovation will be the buzzword at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) University's graVITas ‘10 to be held from September 17 to 19. From a model United Nation to robotics, social-oriented projects to paper presentations, the knowledge carnival will feature innovative events with participation from national and international students and scientists.

The second edition of graVITas – with the theme of Go Green- will have 56 events in 13 broad categories of technology and management. Last year, 2,000 participants from about 350 colleges and universities took part in the fest.

“This year, already 350 colleges have registered for the event. We are expecting to overtake last years' number of participants. Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Iqbal Singh will inaugurate it. Scientists from Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Indian Space Research Organisation and DRDO will participate,” Chancellor of VIT G. Viswanathan told reporters on Saturday.

Sravanthi, student organiser-event management, graVITas said they were toeing a different concept this year by going in for innovative events and more number of external workshops.

Explaining about the Model UN (MUN) conference, organiser of VITMUN Amrita Balakrishnan said, “We are forming nine different committees of the UN with 350 participants.”

With a number of events being lined up in robotics, another organiser Madhusudhan said they are introducing micro mouse in this year's event. The graVITas offers prize money of Rs.13 lakh. Students from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and scientists from USA, Canada and Spain will participate. Singers Sonu Nigam and Karthik will perform on September 17.
