An evergreen song from the Malayalam film ‘Kaathodu Kathoram’ tilted the scales in favour of Jereena Jose in the south Indian singing festival for the visually impaired, 2014 here on Friday.
A class X student in Kerala, she has been learning music from a young age and plans to buy a high-end keyboard to learn and practice more with the prize money. She also wants to give a portion of her prize money towards the improvement of her hostel in Assisi School, Kalagathi in Kottayam district.
M. Rajamma (20), a student from Mysore, who came second in the competition organised by Nethrodaya with the support from Scope International, is already a singer with a music troupe. Music director D. Imman was the chief guest at the event. Playback singers Priya Himesh and M.L.R.Karthikeyan enlivened the evening. “For the visually challenged, there is no separate platform to showcase their talents. We do not want sympathy, we want the right opportunity at the right time,” said Nethrodaya founder C. Govindakrishnan.
