Students indulging in violence, such as the incident inside a Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus on Kamarajar Salai on Wednesday, face the risk of jeopardising their career.
This was the message conveyed to heads of government and aided colleges in the city by senior police offices during a meeting on Thursday.
A day after students assaulted a rival faction and damaged an MTC bus on Wednesday, Marina police arrested four youth. The students were later taken to Government Observation Home in Kellys.
A case under Sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with deadly weapon) and 324 (causing hurt with dangerous weapons) in addition to provisions under Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act has been registered.
A First Information Report has also been lodged following a complaint from the bus driver Muthukrishnan, who was also injured in the process.
On Thursday, institutions were asked to do “whatever it takes” to prevent students from indulging in violence.
