Tension prevailed in Medavakkam near here on Thursday morning when a Village Administrative Officer (VAO) was locked up in his office room for sometime.

The incident happened when a function to distribute identity cards under the Kalaignar Health Insurance Scheme to the residents of Medavakkam village panchayat, was under way. Some functionaries of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam expressed disappointment over the local body not inviting some VIPs to the function.

Some partymen blamed Dasarathan, the VAO, and also pushed him inside his office near the community hall, the function venue. He informed Pallikaranai police station and policemen came to the spot and opened the door. Revenue officials, while confirming the incident, said they were yet to formally lodge a complaint with the Pallikaranai police.
