Vaiko calls for protest on August 26

MDMK general secretary Vaiko has announced a protest on August 26 at Valluvar Kottam here seeking a CBI probe into the killing of 20 woodcutters of Tamil Nadu in an alleged encounter in Seshachalam, a statement here said. Despite the National Human Rights Commission recommending a CBI probe into the case, the Andhra Pradesh government had sought a stay in the Hyderabad High Court and also refused to admit the Tamil Nadu government as a third party in the case, Mr. Vaiko said in the statement.

The decision to seek a CBI inquiry and urge the Tamil Nadu government to fight for justice was taken at a meeting held on August 11, which was attended by the CPI (M), CPI, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam, Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, Social Democratic Party of India and others.

Mr. Vaiko urged human rights activists, Tamil nationalists and all political parties to participate in the protest.
