Vaiko blames CBI for delayed action

December 17, 2010 02:18 am | Updated March 20, 2011 06:21 pm IST - MADURAI:

The intervention of the Supreme Court in the 2G spectrum issue had not only come as a great relief but also instilled confidence among law abiding citizens that the corrupt [at any level] will not be allowed to go scot free by the apex court, said Vaiko, general secretary of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, on Thursday.

When the Bofors scandal, involving Rs.65 crore, was unearthed, people voted out the then ruling party at the Centre, he recalled.

People of the State should repeat the “exercise” by voting out the DMK from power in the Assembly elections, he told The-Hindu .

Mr. Vaiko said that on November 2, 2007, the then Law Minister H. R. Bharadwaj had raised objections to the decision of the Telecom Ministry on allotment of spectrum. The same day, the then Telecom Minister A. Raja had written to the Prime Minister about his decision to allot spectrum on “first come first served basis.”

The same day, the Prime Minister had replied that there should be transparency in allocation.

Mr. Vaiko blamed the CBI for delayed action in this important case. Only after the Supreme Court repeatedly raised questions, the CBI sleuths carried out searches.
