United States Ambassador to India, Richard Verma, on Thursday called for greater engagement between universities in the U.S. and those in Tamil Nadu terms of student-faculty exchange programmes.
Making this observation at his meeting with Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam at the Secretariat, the envoy also underscored the need to further tap the investment opportunities, according to a release issued by the Tamil Nadu government.
During the meeting, the discussion touched upon sectors which had significant potential for collaboration and cooperation. Renewable Energy with particular focus on solar and wind energy, tourism, health, development along the proposed Madurai- Tuticorin Industrial Corridor, improvement to minor ports and the potential of Colachel as a transhipment port were covered during the discussion.
The Chief Minister invited business delegations and investors from the U.S. to attend the Global Investors’ Meet proposed to be held in Chennai on May 23 and 24.
The Ambassador was accompanied by Phillip A. Min, Consul General of the United States of America in Chennai. Chief Secretary K. Gnanadesikan, Advisor Sheela Balakrishnan and Principal Secretary (Finance) K. Shanmugam were among those who represented the State government.
