Unveiled, a GIM-ready Chennai

Spots across the city have emerged the hub of civic activity and entertainment, attracting residents and visitors.

Structures for civic makeover, cultural, folk and art events of the Global Investors’ Meet have started embellishing the skyline and landscape. In view of the Meet, the State government has started organising a range of programmes following a civic makeover.

In addition to the Chennai Trade Centre, spots across the city have emerged the hub of civic activity and entertainment, attracting residents and visitors.

Civic agencies such as the Chennai Corporation have given no objection certificates for organising the events in public spaces including parks, roads and heritage premises. All structures in public spaces earmarked for GIM events have been commissioned.

Residents from various parts of the city have started visiting a few of the spots such as Adyar where such events are being organised in the evening. More events are likely to be organised during September 9 and 10.

The locations where such events would be organised include the Semmozhi Poonga near Gemini Flyover, DMS near Fire Station, SIET, Nandanam Arts College, Saidapet Bus Stand, Park Hyatt Hotel, Dr. MGR University entrance, Jothi Theatre St.Thomas Mount, Trident Hotel, Butt Road turning, space opposite War Memorial, Chennai Trade Centre Service Entrance, opposite CMBT, Vadapalani near FEFSI office, Ashok Nagar 11th Avenue near KFC and Hilton Hotel on 100-ft Road.

At least 65 roads have received a makeover for the Global Investors’ Meet. Work on reducing the number of non-functional streetlights on roads has been completed. Additional workforce for conservancy operations between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. will keep roads clean. The Corporation has relaid roads, made coloured lane-marking, commissioned street furniture, drained stagnant water and cleared debris along key stretches.

Officials of various civic agencies including the Corporation have started manning facilitation counters at Chennai Airport to help delegates and visitors for the Global Investors’ Meet.

Chennai Corporation has given a makeover for interior roads in Triplicane, Mylapore, MRC Nagar, Nandambakkaman and Boat Club. Infrastructure for boosting security measures along Sardar Patel Road, TTK Road, Santhome High Road, St. Marys Road, Greams Road, Greenways Road, Rajiv Gandhi Salai and East Coast Road are in place. Delegates are likely to be taken on a tour of various heritage sites in the Chennai Metropolitan Area and outskirts. The Corporation has completed work on clearing bushes near the Chennai Trade Centre, developing landscape. The Public Works Department has cleaned canals and rivers to promote public health.
