The members of the Association of University Teachers (AUT) plan to protest in front of the Directorate of Collegiate Education on March 7 to reiterate the association’s demands.
The association’s central executive met on Monday and passed several resolutions. The demands include appointing Vice-Chancellors and finance officers to universities and instructing the VCs to submit annual audited reports of income and expenditure within their tenure.
The association has also demanded that the government should not extend the services of retired principals as paid employees of the management after May 31 of that year.
The AUT has also appealed to the Director of Collegiate Education to organise tripartite talks to resolve issues in certain colleges in Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Cuddalore and Chennai. In some of these colleges, the teachers have been struggling to ensure their rights, said AUT general secretary N. Pasupathy.
Career scheme
The members are also demanding benefits under career advancement scheme be sanctioned as on the due date of eligibility of the teachers.
The teachers want the government to instruct the regional joint directors to grant approval for appointments made once the university approves of the qualification of the teachers.
