Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has advised the management of Annamalai University to amicably resolve the ongoing dispute at the varsity. Failing this, the government would be forced to intervene in the matter, he added.

The dispute arose with the association of teachers and pensioners of the varsity protesting against the extended tenure of the Registrar and other issues. A team of representatives from the protesting group met the Higher Education Minister K.Ponmudy and Higher Education Secretary K.Ganesan on Wednesday, seeking government action against the management of the varsity.

The Minister then took the issue to the Chief Minster who issued the ultimatum on Wednesday night.

Mr. Ponmudy has conveyed the same to the varsity management.
