UGS network project to be examined

June 22, 2011 02:41 am | Updated 02:41 am IST - KANCHEEPURAM:

The blue print and subsequent implementation of underground sewerage network expansion project in Kancheepuram Municipality will be examined, according to MLA V.Somasundaram.

Talking to reporters at the municipality, where he conducted public grievance meeting on Monday, the MLA said extension of UGS network was reportedly taken up by the civic body to cover the residential areas that have come up in the town limit in the last three to four decades. The old UGS network was laid during 1940s covering major carriageways and a few inner streets and roads.

As per the extension plan, two pumping stations were to be set up and a treatment plant on the eastern outskirts of the town and treated water to be let out in Nathapettai lake. However, Mr.Somasundram said the execution of the work was not up to the mark and hence the entire project proposal and implementation would be studied to find the defects in the scheme and as well as to chalk out remedial measures for the benefit of tax payers.
