Two tyres of a new car parked on Officers Colony Main Road in Anna Nagar Western Extension were reported stolen on Monday night.
The theft has raised concern among residents of the locality about safety of vehicles as this is the second such incident in the area over the past three months.
The car was bought only a week ago. The owner of the vehicle has lodged a complaint with the J.J. Nagar police station.
Residents said parking along the roads was common in the locality owing to lack of space in the houses or apartment complexes. In the previous incident, the tyres of a cab were stolen.
The residents' welfare association has deployed security personnel to prevent such thefts. There are plans to coordinate with the police to increase security and install closed-circuit television system if possible on main roads, according to V. Rajagopal, a resident of Officers Colony. He added that parking of vehicles on the roads in the locality, which poses hindrance to traffic, had increased over the past few years as more commercial establishments, including cab operators, had come up.
