Two women found murdered

An 86-year-old woman and her granddaughter were found murdered at their home in Pallikaranai on Sunday. The decomposed bodies of N.Rajalakshmi and S.Annapoorani, 36, were recovered by police from their residence in VGP Shanthi Nagar.

A senior police officer said that the murder might have been committed on New Year’s eve. The victim’s neighbour got suspicious as the women had not collected milk sachets for a couple of days and informed Rajalakshmi’s daughter S. Meenakshi, who was living elsewhere in the city.

Ms. Meenakshi came to the house on Sunday, found her mother and niece dead and informed the police. Preliminary investigations revealed that the assailant had entered the house after breaking open the iron grill gate on the rear side of the house. “Annapoorani had sustained injuries on her head caused by a blow from a heavy object. Rajalakshmi did not have any external injuries,” the officer said. The motive behind the murder could not be immediately established as gold jewels and cash were untouched by the assailant.
