Two steel-based bus shelters on MG Road unnecessary: Commuters

They say the existing brick-and-mortar shelters should have been put to use

A few months ago, three new steel shelters were installed on MG Road connecting LB Road and Elliot’s Beach. Two of these steel shelters have been installed at Vannanthurai Junction. A section of commuters finds the move to have these facilities at the junction unwarranted as brick-and-mortar bus shelters have already been in place. “The concrete shelter located on the side, where buses travel to LB Road, is encroached upon by motorcyclists. Steps should be taken to prevent parking of two-wheelers and the existing facility should have been put to use.

The steel shelter installed on the other side of the road, where buses travel to Besant Nagar, is also not required as a brick-and-mortar shelter is found there and is still being used,” says a commuter.

The third new steel shelter installed near the Adyar depot junction is the only one which makes a difference as that bus stop did not have a shelter for many years.
