Two women found hanging in IIT-Madras

Two women - a research scholar and a professor's wife, allegedly committed suicide separately in the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras on Wednesday.

P. Maheswari (34), a married post-doctoral research scholar in chemistry from Puducherry, was found hanging in the Sabarmati hostel around 4 p.m., police sources said

In the other incident, G. Vijayalakshmi (47), wife of Ganesan, was found hanging in their flat, the sources said.

Both the bodies were sent to the Government Royapettah hospital for post-mortem examination.

In a statement, the institution said the research scholar's family was informed of the incident and that they were extending full cooperation to the authorities.
