Two persons who had allegedly conspired to eliminate police personnel involved in the encounter in which ‘Dindigul’ Pandi and his associate ‘Guduvancheri’ Velu were shot dead recently were apprehended on Saturday. A revolver and a knife were seized from them, police said.
According to sources, Raja alias ‘Katta’ Raja and Mohan alias ‘Ceylon’ Mohan robbed a man on P.T. Rajan Road in K.K. Nagar early on Saturday. On information that the accused persons were in possession of a gun and claimed to be associates of ‘Dindigul’ Pandi, Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran formed special teams to locate them.
A team intercepted the two near Vadapalani and arrested them at gun-point. They were in possession of a revolver with five rounds and a long knife. On interrogation, the accused told police that ‘Dindigul’ Pandi’s second wife had asked them to eliminate the policemen involved in the February 8 encounter and two other rivals.
“Investigation revealed that Raja and Mohan were close aides of ‘Dindigul’ Pandi. Raja was involved in six murder cases. They confessed to having committed the robbery at K.K. Nagar,” a senior police official said.
