The men allegedly abducted and then threatened a businessman based out of Alwarpet, at gunpoint
Chetpet police have arrested two men on charges of allegedly kidnapping and threatening an Alwarpet-based businessman at gun point and withdrawing Rs.14 lakh from his account.
Police said the businessman, Sameer Shetty, who organised music programmes, had fallen out with his associates Vamseedharan and Gowthamrajan over a deal last year. Their relationship had soured since then.
However, recently, Vamseedharan called Sameer over to his office in Chetpet to discuss a business deal. When he went over there, he was allegedly confined in a room by Vamseedharan and three others, who held him responsible for losses in their business.
The businessman, in his complaint had said that they threatened him with guns and other dangerous weapons and forced him to sign on several bank cheques and other documents.
Later, when he found out that Rs.14 lakh had been withdrawn from his bank account, he lodged a complaint with the police, who arrested two persons Vamseedharan (22) of Habibullah Road in T. Nagar, and his friend Gowthamraj. Police recovered a total of Rs.10.5 lakh from them. Further investigations are on.
