Two passengers in a mini van were killed on Thursday morning near Puzhal on the Grand Northern Trunk (GNT) Road, when their vehicle was involved in a collision with a lorry. The driver of the lorry, police said, was absconding.

Police said P. Raja (52), a resident of Karthirvedu near Puzhal, and S. Karthirvel (65), a resident of Neduvayaalpakkam, were travelling along with six other vegetable traders in the van to Koyembedu wholesale market at around 4.50 a.m. on Thursday when a lorry, with water cans, which was heading towards Kodambakkam, hit the vehicle from behind. In the impact, Raja and Karthirvel died on the spot. Five others — Valarmathi, Rajaram, Subramani, Karthikeyan, Megala, and Ellumalai (the driver) – were injured.
