Two killed in accident

Two persons were killed in an accident involving a motorcycle and a light commercial vehicle near Paalur on Chengalpattu-Kancheepuram Road on Tuesday.

According to police, around 3.15 p.m. the motorcycle in which the victims – Manikandan (24) of Santhakulam Colony near Uthiramerur and his friend, Kamalraj (25) of Pazhaveri Colony, Arumpuliyur near Uthiramerur – was headed towards Chengalpattu and the LCV coming in the opposite direction collided.

In the impact, both of them sustained grievous injuries and were rushed to Chengalpattu Medical College Hospital, Chengalpattu, where Manikandan was declared dead. Kamalraj died on the way to a Government Hospital in Chennai, police said.

Fatal fall

A 35-year-old man died on the spot when he fell from a motorcycle on Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road in St. Thomas Mount on Tuesday evening.

Traffic police said the victim, Thangaraj, belonged to New Colony, Adambakkam, and was employed in the Tank Factory, Avadi. He got married a year ago and the couple have a one-month-old baby. His wife had gone to her parents' house in Anakaputhur along with their child.

Thangaraj had gone to Anakaputhur and was returning to Adambakkam on Tuesday evening. Near the Officers Training Academy (OTA), he reportedly lost control of the motorcycle and it skidded. He fell on the road, sustained head injuries and died on the spot.

Multiple collision

Twelve persons, including four women, sustained injuries in a multiple collision on GST Road in Chromepet on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said two Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) buses, an autorickshaw and a motorcycle were involved in the accident. The injured are undergoing treatment at Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital in Chromepet, police said, adding that they were out of danger.
