Two chain-snatching offenders who turned tech-savvy and went on a shopping spree with fake credit cards were apprehended.

Velmurugan (30), an engineering graduate, and Nagappan (32), a class X dropout, residents of Tiruvallur, trained in Bengaluru to make fake credit cards using a decoder and an embossing machine. After operating in Bengaluru for a while, the duo came to Chennai and purchased 11 mobile phones worth Rs. 3 lakh, some gold jewellery and other electronics items from T. Nagar, using the fake cards. The two were nabbed by a Mambalam police team on Wednesday when they struck again at the shopping hub.
