Two held for assault

Two gangsters in possession of sickles were arrested and a vehicle seized by a special police team on Wednesday, in connection with a brutal attack on two persons outside a restaurant in Kodungaiyur last week.

The police said S. Vinod Kumar (28) and A. Viji also known as Karna (36) were arrested for the assault on P. Babu (40) and Meenakshi Sundraram (32).

A case of attempt to murder under section 307 of IPC was filed by the Kodungaiyur police who had been on the look out for seven persons — the main accused, Gopi, ‘Madurai’ Senthil, Vasanth, Chandru, Mani, Vinod Kumar and Viji. The special police team, led by the additional deputy commissioner of police, S. Jayakumar, are now on the look out for the other accused persons.

The police said S. Anadhan (55), father of Gopi, had gotten into an argument with S. Pannerselvam, a relative of Babu when the latter’s bike hit Anadhan. Upset that Anandhan had been beaten up, Gopi, who is a gangster, was on the look out for Pannerselvam when he spotted Babu, in front of the restaurant on April 3.
