Two die in MTC bus accidents in Chennai

Two persons died after they were hit by Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) buses in different parts of the city on Thursday.

In both the cases, the victims were riding two-wheelers.

The police identified one of the victims as Saravanan (30), a resident of Rajamangalam. On Thursday morning, he had dropped his wife at her office and then took the Chennai–Tiruvallur High Road.

He had stopped by the side of the road near the Kallukadai bus stop to answer a phone call when an MTC bus hit his vehicle.

Saravanan came under the wheels of the bus and died on the spot.

The bus driver, Vincent, was arrested by the Thirumangalam traffic investigation police.

In another incident, 44-year-old Dayanidhi, a resident of Old Washermenpet, died after she was knocked down by an MTC bus in Adyar on Thursday morning. The victim was on her way to meet a relative in Adyar.

When she was on L.B. Road, an MTC bus hit her and she fell from the bike. She sustained head injuries and died.

The Adyar traffic investigation police arrested the bus driver, Gangadharan.
