Two women died after a wall collapsed on the roofs of their adjoining houses in Kasimedu in the early hours of Monday.

Fishing Harbour police identified the victims as Lilly (60) and Chitra (45), who were residents of Pallavan Nagar 5 Street in New Washermenpet.

The accident took place around 12.30 a.m. when a newly-constructed wall on the second floor of an adjoining building crumbled on to the asbestos roof of their houses following heavy rains on Sunday night.

While Chitra lived alone in her house, her neighbour Lilly was residing with her daughter Irudayamary and son-in-law Chinnasamy. All the residents were asleep when the wall collapsed.

The loud noise and cries of the injured woke the residents of the area who ran in and rushed Chitra, Lilly and Chinnasamy to the Government Stanley hospital.

Irudayamary escaped unhurt. Lilly died in the hospital shortly after the incident, while Chitra who suffered head injuries died within hours of being admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, police sources said.

Fishing Harbour police have registered a case.
