Two women sub inspectors of police were injured in an accident at Tambaram Sanatorium on Wednesday morning.

Sowriammal Devi and Sathya Devi, both in their early twenties, had joined the police as SIs earlier this year and were attached to the Chromepet police station for the past six months.

On Wednesday, they were travelling on a TVS Scooty and took a ‘U’ turn at the traffic signal opposite Government Hospital for Thoracic Medicine, Tambaram Sanatorium on Grand Southern Trunk Road.

A speeding SUV hit the scooter, throwing both SIs on the road. They were injured and were rushed to the Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital in Chromepet, where they were administered first aid.

They were then referred to a private hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. They were out of danger, traffic police sources added.
