The central crime branch (CCB) of the city police arrested two land grabbers, who allegedly forged documents to sell a piece of land in Uthandi that belonged to a woman who lives in Bengaluru.
The CCB said Lajibhai Prathaprao Patil complained to the city Police Commissioner seeking action against those who usurped her land by creating forged documents and impersonation.
Ms. Patil said she was the original title holder of the land measuring 5312 sq.ft worth around ₹3 crore at VGP Golden Beach layout. A sale agreement and registration was executed in her favour in 1988. Later, she learnt that the land had been grabbed and lodged a complaint.
A special team of the CCB, after an investigation, arrested two suspects — K. Devaki of T. Nagar and M. Udayakumar, 30, of Semmanchery — and is searching for others.
According to the police, Devaki posed as Ms. Patil and created a fake document in her name. The gang then took ₹1.5 crore from a buyer for the property.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan has appealed to the public to verify documents before buying any land or immovable property. The buyers should ascertain the ownership of the land, ensure the registration of documents and should avoid any dispute while buying land, he said.
