A giant boring machine will soon tunnel through the depths of Shenoy Nagar and its neighbourhood.
This will be the fourth Metro station, after Nehru Park, Washermenpet and May Day Park, to witness tunnelling work.
The work will begin by end of December, a CMRL official said.
“The tunnel boring machines (TBM) are being assembled now. This process has been going on for the past month and is now in its final stages. As soon as it is completed, the first TBM will be launched at the site,” the official said.
Of the 11 TBMs that will be deployed at various Metro Rail sites across the city, two will be used at Shenoy Nagar. Like at the other sites where the TBM has been used, here too, the second TBM will be launched only after the first one drills about 100 metres.
“It will take a couple of months to excavate 100 metres once the TBM is launched,” the official said.
The first TBM will drill across Shenoy Nagar, Anna Nagar East, Anna Nagar Tower and reach Thirumangalam covering a distance of 3.5 km.
“Construction of the base slab for the station is nearing completion and work on the second roof slab is in progress. The stations at Anna Nagar East, Anna Nagar Tower and Thirumangalam are coming up fast,” the official said.
