A trial run of the new international terminal at Chennai airport was carried out on Tuesday.
“As many as 225 passengers from a Sri Lankan Airlines flight were taken to the existing international terminal via the aerobridge that connects the airplane to the terminal. They were then directed to the new terminal through interlinks between the existing and new terminal,” an official said.
The new international terminal boasts of a five-level structure (Basement, Arrival, Mezzanine, Departure, VIP levels) with an area spanning 6, 51,300 sq.ft as well as 52 check-in counters. It is equipped to handle four million passengers a year.
The new international and domestic terminals are connected via an elevated corridor, about one kilometre long.
Seven aerobridges for the domestic terminal have also arrived from Indonesia and will be commissioned by August 15.
