Young book lovers have a treat waiting for them this Children's Day. The Anna Centenary Library in Kotturpuram, which opened last month, will start issuing membership cards from November 14, after which children can start borrowing books.

The membership will be open to children below 14 and they can borrow two books at a time for two weeks.

“The membership fee is still being discussed by the government. Otherwise, the membership would be based on the school identity card and identity card of the parents, which are to be produced at the library,” School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu told The Hindu.

A valid driving licence or passport could be submitted as proof of identity by the parents. Those not holding a passport could produce voter ID card, ration card and any other similar residential proof, said a senior official of the library.

The section having periodicals would be shifted to the ground floor. So far, nearly 1,500 children have made a request for the membership, said the official.
