They will be training over 8,000 personnel from April 22
Training for all master trainers for the Census 2011 operations in Chennai, under the guidance of master trainer facilitators, got over at the EDUSAT centres in the city on Monday.
In turn, the master trainers would give training from April 22 to over 8,000 personnel to be deployed for carrying out the census operations in the city.
The sessions for the master trainers were organised at the EDUSAT centres in Triplicane, Ashok Nagar and Royapuram.
Master trainers got their doubts clarified with officials of the Directorate of Census Operations on house listing using the direct relay of the session across the State. Listing the transgender among males and how to assign door number to houses were some of the doubts cleared, said R.Natarajan, a master trainer.
Interaction with the census directorate at the same time through the EDUSAT centres has improved the efficiency of the all the master trainers, said K.M.Maheswari, a master trainer facilitator.
Around 35 questions are being used to collect data from residents. But the challenge of asking questions to residents without hurting their sentiments has to be managed effectively by enumerators, said Kishore Kumar, an official.
“The trickiest part is in making them efficient in this aspect,” he said.
The use of technology such as biometric identification and simplification of the procedure of collecting data would certainly make this census a better record of the condition of people, said Mr. Natarajan.
“The focus will be the identification of the right target for welfare measures,” he said.
