Traffic was disrupted on Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR) for over half an hour from around 9.15 p.m. on Thursday after Metropolitan Transport Corporation crews of over 20 buses went on a flash strike protesting against the assault on an MTC driver.

Flash strike

Police said that the staff went on strike demanding that action be taken against some passengers who allegedly assaulted the driver of an M 19 A bus on the Kelambakkam – T. Nagar route at SRP Tools.

Sources in MTC said the altercation happened when the driver, Loganathan, refused to open the automatic doors of the bus at the traffic signal which was a few metres away from the designated bus stop.

Dragged out of bus

The sources added that the men dragged the driver out of the bus, beat him up and then fled. The driver was taken to the Government Royapettah Hospital for treatment. Traffic police cleared the vehicles that were lined up till the Lifeline junction in Perungudi. Police are investigating.
