Traffic diversion in Chennai on New Year's eve

The traffic police have announced diversions to ensure smooth movement of vehicles on New Year’s eve:

Kamarajar Salai and Rajaji Salai

All Foreshore Road entries will be barricaded on December 31 from 8 p.m. onwards to prevent entry of vehicles to Beach-Foreshore Road.

Vehicles on Foreshore Road will be allowed to exit to Kamarajar Salai only up to 8 p.m. After this, vehicles can exit only towards Light House. No vehicles will be permitted to exit or enter Kamarajar Salai from Foreshore Road. Vehicles will be diverted to Light House to take the route via Foreshore Nochikuppam Loop Road to reach South Canal Road and Santhome High Road.

From 8 p.m. on December 31 to 2 a.m. on January 1, vehicles will not be allowed on Kamarajar Salai from Gandhi Statue to War Memorial. All approach roads towards Kamaraj Salai, including Lloyds Road, will be barricaded after 8 p.m.

Vehicles will not be allowed from Wallajah point and RBI North subway towards War Memorial from 8 p.m. and will be diverted towards NSC Bose Road to reach EVR Salai and Anna Salai. From 8 p.m., vehicles coming from R.K. Salai, Wallajah Road, Bharathi Salai, Lloyds Road, Dr. Besant Road, Adams Road, Flagstaff Road and War Memorial will not be allowed towards Kamarajar Salai. Vehicles going from Adyar to Gandhi Statue will be diverted at Karaneeswarer Koil Street–Santhome High Road Junction to Natesan Road, Ice House Junction, Triplicane High Road and Wallajah Road to reach Anna Salai.

From 8 p.m., vehicles from the North, going towards Adyar, will be diverted from RBI North towards NSC Bose Road, EVR Salai, Anna Salai, Wellington, G.P. Road, Royapettah High Road, Luz Junction and R.K. Mutt Road.

Elliot’s Beach

No vehicles will be allowed on to Sixth Avenue in Besant Nagar between 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 2 a.m. on January 1.

Parking spots

One side of Swamy Sivananda Salai, railway basement at Chepauk MRTS, Lloyds Road MRTS, Queen Mary’s College, one side of Dr. Besant Road, one side of Lloyds Road, one side of Besant Nagar 4th Avenue, one side of Besant Nagar 3rd and 4th Main Roads, one side of Besant Nagar 2nd and 3rd and 5th Avenues.

CoP’s regulations for the public

No bursting of firecrackers in crowded places.

Any form of eve-teasing will be severely dealt with.

The public shall refrain from throwing coloured powder/coloured water on others.

Drunk drivers will face legal action and their vehicles will be confiscated.

Speeding on two wheelers and cars will also be severely dealt with.

The public shall refrain from getting into the sea or getting on to boats to venture into the sea.
