Keeping in mind the extra rush of vehicles when schools reopen on June 10, the Chennai traffic police have issued guidelines for schools and parents.

Parents who drop children at school in self-driven vehicles must ensure they reach schools well in advance. They have also been asked to leave immediately to avoid traffic congestion.

The police have asked parents to ensure their vehicles are not parked on the carriageway blocking general traffic. Parents have also been advised against sending children in overcrowded autorickshaws and buses.

Autorickshaw drivers have been warned against overloading. School managements have been asked to monitor the safety of students during opening and closing hours by employing adequate staff.

School managements have been asked to provide adequate arrangements inside their campuses to pick up and drop children.

They may also employ trained road-safety patrol students to manage traffic and crowds.

School and college authorities must also ensure their buses are not parked on the road as students alight and board.

The police have also suggested carpooling to reduce the number of vehicles plying on the roads.
