Traffic arrangements for New Year’s eve

In order to ensure an accident-free New Year’s eve, the Chennai traffic police has announced traffic arrangements on Kamarajar Salai and Besant Nagar on December 31.

Traffic arrangements on Kamarajar Salai (between 9 p.m. on December, 31, 2014 and 2 a.m. on January 1, 2015)

All entries to Foreshore Road (service road of Kamarajar Salai) will be closed to vehicles on December 31 from 9 p.m. to prevent vehicle entry on the Beach side of Foreshore Road.

All vehicles parked on the Foreshore Road (service road) beyond 9 p.m. will be removed.

Vehicles will not be allowed on Kamarajar Salai between Santhome Church and War Memorial from 9 p.m. on December 31 to 2 a.m. on January 1.

Approaches to Kamarajar Salai will be closed for vehicular traffic at War Memorial, Swami Sivananda Salai (near TV Station), Wallajah Road (near PWD Office), Bharathi Salai (near Presidency College), Besant Road (near Ice House Police Station), Lloyds Road (near Fish Market), R.K. Salai (near Queen Mary’s College rear entry) and Karaneeswarar Koil Street (near All India Radio) from 9 p.m. on December 31.

Parking facilities for the public have been identified close to the above points of diversion.

Vehicles proceeding from Wallajah Point and RBI subway towards War Memorial will be diverted on Anna Salai and EVR Salai.

Vehicles proceeding from Adyar towards Gandhi Statue will be diverted at Kutcheri Road junction and will have to proceed to Luz Corner and further, head off to other parts of the city.

Those participating in the New Year revelry on Kamarajar Salai are requested to park their vehicles at the following locations:

War Memorial Junction – Island Grounds, Sivananda Salai, Wallajah Road – PWD Office Road, Canal Road leading to MRTS Station.

Bharathi Salai – Victoria Hostel, Lloyds Road – near National Institute of Open Schooling, R.K. Salai – Queen Mary’s College, Karaneeswarar Koil Junction – St. Bedes Cricket ground.

Traffic arrangements - Vaikunda Ekadesi Festival – Parthasarathy Temple (between 10 p.m. on December 31 and 6 a.m. on January 1)

Devotees proceeding to Parthasarathy Temple are requested to reach Besant Road and Triplicane High Road junction, proceed on Triplicane High Road and enter the temple area through Singarachari Street. Adequate parking arrangements have been organised near Parthasarathy Temple.

Only vehicles and devotees proceeding to Parthasarathy Temple will be permitted to proceed beyond Besant Road (Ice House Police Station) to visit the temple from 9 p.m. Those participating in New Year revelry are requested to avoid using Besant Road between Vivekananda House and Ice House Police Station.

Traffic arrangements - Santhome Church (between 10 p.m. on December 31 and 2 a.m. on January 1)

Devotees proceeding to Santhome Church for midnight prayers from R.K. Salai are requested to proceed via Karaneeswarar Koil Street – Santhome High Road and park their vehicles at St. Bede’s School playground adjoining Santhome Church.

Devotees proceeding to Santhome Church from Luz junction are requested to park their vehicles at St. Raphael’s School ground on Kutcheri Road.

Devotees proceeding to Santhome Church from Adyar – South Canal Bank Road are requested to park their vehicles at Santhome High School ground.

Traffic arrangements – Lord Venkateswara Temple, Venkat Narayana Road (between 11 p.m. on December 31 and 6 a.m. on January 1)

Devotees proceeding to the temple from Nandanam signal and Madley Road junction will be diverted at the junction of Burkit Road and Venkat Narayana Road and will be directed to park their vehicles near Hindi Prachar Sabha.

Devotees proceeding to the temple from Panagal Park will be allowed to proceed towards Venkat Narayana Road and Burkit Road junction. They will not be allowed to park their vehicles on the stretch of Venkat Narayana Road between JYM Kalyana Mandapam and Burkit Road junction. They are advised to park their vehicles near Hindi Prachar Sabha.

Traffic arrangements at Elliot’s Beach

Movement of vehicles on 6th Avenue of Elliots Beach will be closed between 9 p.m. on December 31 and 2 a.m. on January 1.

Parking areas have been identified near all the approach roads namely 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th Avenues and 3rd & 4th Main Roads.

Devotees proceeding to Velankanni Church are requested to park their vehicles on 2nd Avenue road and proceed by foot beyond Kalakshetra junction.
