TNSCB to use Bhuvan to track housing project

May 16, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) will soon launch the ISRO-enabled geoportal Bhuvan to monitor the progress of a beneficiary-led housing project, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, in the State.

“This will make our task of assessment and reaching out to the needy easier,” said a senior official of TNSCB.

Through this portal, geo-tagged photographs of each house constructed under the beneficiary-led component (in situ development), will be clicked and instantly uploaded, enabling officials from both the State and the Ministry track its progress.

If the project is behind schedule, an SMS alert will be sent to the authorities concerned.

“Each surveyor will have a mobile application in their android device, while they go to check. They will have to click four photographs of the completed house, from four different sides, to present a complete picture for the higher officials,” said another official.

“There will be no chance of fraudulent activity or duplication as it will be GIS-enabled. This will also help in the work the work getting completed faster,” he added.

The State Government through the Department of Housing and Urban Development had entered into an agreement with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (HUPA) last year for implementing ‘Housing for All’ project.

Following the agreement, the Ministry entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Remote Sensing Centre (NSRC), Hyderabad and ISRO, and developed the Bhuvan-MoHUPA Geo-portal two months ago.
