About 79,000 candidates appeared for the group II preliminary examination of the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) in Chennai on Sunday.
A total of 6.65 lakh candidates took the exam across the State.
M. Vijayakumar, secretary, TNPSC said there were a total of 2,269 exam venues in the State, of which 263 were in Chennai. “Until last year, we conducted a main exam and an oral test to select candidates. This year, we have introduced a preliminary examination to screen people. This will be followed by the main examination,” he said.
A. Navaneethakrishnan, chairman, TNPSC said the exam was held for a total of 1,064 posts including that of municipal commissioners, employment officers and registration department officers.
“The results are expected to be published in three months,” he said.
