TN postal circle tops international money remittance for 2015

Going by the patronage for it in the city and the suburbs, international money transfer service offered at post offices are becoming popular. Tamil Nadu postal circle has won the first prize for being the top circle in international money remittance for 2015.

About Rs. 450 crore was remitted through services such as MO Videsh in post offices from different parts of the world.

Of this, nearly Rs.57.85 crore was remitted through 340 post offices in the Chennai city region. Several city customers receive money mainly from countries like France, Australia, Malaysia and the United States. Each customer is allowed to get 12 remittances every year. Mervin Alexander, postmaster general (Chennai) received the award from M. S. Ramanujam, member of Postal Service Board, at a function held recently.
