State appeals for review of NEET

April 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Tamil Nadu government has appealed in the Supreme Court against making the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) compulsory for admission to medical colleges this year. The government has sought to not make the test mandatory.

“We have to protect the interests of our students and so we have made an appeal [on Friday],” said a senior official of the Public Health Department.

For students, the suspense is stressful. Ever since the decision to hold NEET was announced, S. Archana of DAV Matriculation School, Mogappair, has mailed the legal aid cell in Supreme Court explaining her worries. “How is it justified to force a test on us in the last minute?” She was planning to write the common entrance test in Karnataka but now is not sure if it would be held.
