Overcast skies and widespread thundershowers that lashed many parts of the city brought delight to residents assaulted by an unusually hot July and August, and a city starved of rains. Chennai may enjoy cloudy sky and light rain on Sunday too.
On Saturday, the weather station at Nungambakkam recorded 35 mm of rainfall within a few hours in the evening. However, Meenambakkam received only 4.4 mm of rainfall. Thundershowers had also brought down the day temperature to normal of 34. 8 degree Celsius in the city.
Some parts of the city were waterlogged after the sudden showers, raising concerns over flooding during the northeast monsoon. T. Gunaseelan, a resident, said the junction near Ambattur telephone exchange became waterlogged within a short time. The showers also increased inflow into Parthasarathy temple tank.
