Rajinikanth — 12.12.12, A Birthday Special, published by The Hindu for the actor’s birthday, was released by the man himself at his Poes Garden residence on Tuesday.
“I was pleasantly surprised to know that The Hindu was bringing out a special on me. This is the first time such a volume is being brought out by your newspaper on an actor, right,” he asked a team from The Hindu, who called on him with copies of the special.
Flipping through the pages, a visibly touched Rajinikanth remarked, “I am privileged and honoured.”
The 100-page volume , which celebrates the man and his movies, contains insightful articles, rare photographs and archival material. They include one by veteran director K. Balachander, who launched Rajinikanth in Tamil cinema, and an interview with SP. Muthuraman, who has directed 25 films starring the actor.
Also featured are analyses of his rise to superstardom, features on the man behind the film star, reviews of his hit films, and a candid interview with his wife Latha Rajinikanth.
Asked if he had something to say to his fans on his birthday, Rajinikanth said: “What can I say to them? I can only say thank you for all their love with folded arms.”
Priced at Rs. 150, copies of the Rajini special may be ordered by calling the nearest office of The Hindu or through a newspaper agent/vendor.

This is a great initiative by THE HINDU to celebrate a phenomenon called "Rajinikanth"! May the legend live for another 60 years and continue his service for years to come. There are so many actors who come & act well. But, there are only a few, one or two in a century that come by & lift your spirits with their flair & charisma that make you sit back & appreciate the talent & the personality. And, someone, after watching the movie "batsha", not becoming a thalaivar fan is as impossible as India not qualifying for Asia cup. Such is thalaivar's fan following... there is no superlative to describe the man. Saying that a book has been released to mark his achievements & to record his highs is merely an understatement. The legend of world cinema deserves more.
