A three-year-old boy fell off the third-floor balcony of an apartment complex on Kanniah Naidu Street, Kondithoppu, Seven Wells around 8 a.m. on Saturday. He died on the way to hospital.

According to Seven Wells police, the boy Anshu Narbhat Singh was playing on the balcony with two pillows he had brought from the bedroom. His father, who runs a cosmetic and toys store in Kasi Chetty Street, Parrys, had left for work in the morning while his mother was busy in the kitchen.

“As no one was watching, the boy placed the pillows on one another, climbed on them and held the balcony railing to get a better view of something downstairs. He slipped and fell over 40 feet and was severely injured. People nearby rushed Anshu to a hospital but he succumbed to injuries on the way,” said an investigating officer.

Anshu is the couple’s only son and the family had taken up residence in the third-floor flat only three weeks ago, police added.
