Three teenage girls were reported missing in Vyasarpadi in north Chennai on Wednesday.
The police said I. Jeeva (19), a first-year BA student and a resident of Pudhu Nagar in MKB Nagar, B. Deepa (19), a second-year B.Com student and a resident of Shastri Nagar of Vyasarpadi, and S. Jevitha (16), who had just written her class X examination and is a resident of B.V. Colony, Vyasarpadi, left their homes on Monday evening. The girls who had said they were meeting a common friend in the city failed to return.
The parents of the girls, along with a few neighbours, searched for the girls in their friends’ houses in the neighbourhood, their respective educational institutions and in the residences of relatives but were not successful in locating them.
“All three girls knew each other since childhood,” said Deepa’s father, S. Balakrishan, who works in a private firm in the city.
On Wednesday, the parents of the three girls filed a ‘missing’ complaint with the MKB Nagar and Kodungaiyur police.
The police have formed special teams to search for the missing girls at various places including CBMT, Central railway station and major bus terminuses including the one at Broadway.
The police are also making enquiries with the girls’ neighbours and friends.
“We are also trying to track and locate them through the girls’ mobile phones. We will find them in a day or two,” said a police officer.
