Three schoolgirls commit suicide

Three schoolgirls allegedly committed suicide owing to poor performance in examinations, in separate incidents here on Monday.

According to the police, C. Sylvia Mary a Plus One student in a private school on Ethiraj koil Street at Kodungaiyur was found hanging in the school veranda early on Monday. A native of Pollachi, the victim used to stay on the campus and did part-time work. Besides poverty, poor performance in studies is suspected to have forced the girl to take the extreme step. “We have formed a special team to investigate the exact cause of death,” a police officer said.

At Pudupet, V. Saran Rose (13) of Tiruvenkadam Street was found hanging in her room early on Monday. The police said the victim had told her parents that she had not performed well in the quarterly examinations. The body was shifted to the Government Hospital for post-mortem. The Egmore police are investigating.

In the third case, G. Anjali (14) of S.R. Nagar in Tiruvottiyur, who was studying in Standard IX at a private school, was found hanging in her room on Sunday evening. Her parents were out shopping when she allegedly committed suicide.
