Three members of a family committed suicide in Chinna Sekkadu, Manali, on Friday night.

According to the police, Vedhagiri (66), a former employee of Wimco and his wife Jothi (55), an assistant in a utensil shop had two daughters — Sheeba (26), a commerce graduate, and Jabakkani (24), who was working as a nurse in a private hospital in Kilpauk.

The family lived at Koothabiran street, Chinna Sekkadu, on the meagre earnings of Jothi and Jabakkani.

Vedhagiri lost his eyesight 10 years ago and Sheeba was suffering from mental illness.

Self-immolation

On Friday, after leaving Sheeba at a temple near Kancheepuram, the others committed suicide by self-immolation.

Police sent the bodies for post-mortem examination to Government Stanley Hospital.
