Three killed in car-truck collision on ECR

Three persons died on the spot and three others were seriously injured when their car collided head-on with a truck at Uthandi on East Coast Road on Sunday evening.

Police said the victims, all youngsters, were headed for Chennai from Puducherry.

According to S. Sankaralingam, Inspector of Police, Neelankarai, around 8.00 p.m. the car after crossing the Uthandi toll plaza rammed a sewage truck coming from Neelankarai.

“In the impact, three men inside the car were killed. The injured were rushed to the Global Hospital in Perumbakkam,” said Mr. Sankaralingam from the accident site. The condition of the injured is critical. The identity of the victims and the cause of the collision are being ascertained. Investigation revealed that the car belonged to a travel agency in Royapuram and the truck was from Kanathur. The truck driver fled the scene.

Shakeel Akther, Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, and other senior police officials visited the accident spot.
