Three men were killed in separate accidents within a span of a few hours around Tambaram on Saturday night.
Two of the accidents were hit-and-run cases.
In the third, the driver of a STC bus was arrested for causing the death of a migrant construction worker from Jharkhand.
The first accident took place around 10 p.m. on Saturday. Raji(37), a carpenter, was on his way back on a scooter to his home in Rajeswari Nagar Extension in Sunnambu Kulathur when he was hit by an unidentified vehicle, which sped away.
The accident took place at Anna Nagar (West).
CMRL worker killed
Around 1 a.m. on Sunday, a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus caused the death of the migrant worker, who was working at a Chennai Metro Rail Limited site on Grand Southern Trunk Road in St. Thomas Mount.
St. Thomas Mount Traffic Police (Investigation) told reporters that Gangadhar Munda (19) of Jharkhand was placing the safety cones opposite Officers’ Training Academy. The bus, on its way to CMBT in Koyambedu from Villupuram, hit one of the safety cones, which in turn hit Gangadhar on his forehead. He was rushed to the Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre in Porur, where he succumbed to injuries. Traffic police arrested Sakthivel (52), driver of the government bus.
Pilgrim dies
Murugan Arumugham (35), who was walking to Our Lady of Good Health Shrine in Velankanni, died after he was hit by an unknown vehicle. Traffic police said the resident of K.M. Gardens in Perambur, had left home in the evening along with a group of fellow pilgrims.
On Sunday, around 2 a.m., Murugan was walking alone along the margins of GST Road in Pallavaram while the others were walking ahead of him. He was knocked down by an unknown vehicle near Lakshmi movie hall. He was rushed to the Government General Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.
