The Mylapore police on Thursday arrested three persons who allegedly hacked a 24-year-old man to death in Luz Corner, Mylapore, in full public view on Wednesday afternoon.

The weapons used as well as a motorcycle were seized from the suspects.

The police identified the key suspect as Vellai Kumar (40), of Valluvar Thulasingam Street, Mylapore, who planned and executed the killing of Tamilchelvan, a driver and a resident of Madhavarao Nagar in Mylapore. Kumar’s mother had been abused, recently, by Tamilchelvan, following an argument over a minor issue.

Kumar, along with his accomplices, Ilayakumar (24) of Kodungaiyur and Rajabhupathi (23) of Perambur, waited for Tamilchelvan on Wednesday afternoon at Luz Corner and brutally hacked him to death.

The three men were arrested and remanded to judicial custody, the police said.
