More than 2,000 job-seekers turned up at the Tiruvallur Collectorate on Tuesday, despite incessant rain, to get their names registered for a skill training and employment fair. The fair will be held under the ‘Employable Skill Training for Educated Unemployed Youth in Private Sector' Scheme, scheduled for State-wide launch on November 21.
The candidates, hailing from Pallipattu, Tirutani and Uthukottai taluks and those who have migrated to Tiruvallur district from other districts in Tamil Nadu, started arriving at the Collectorate from 9 a.m. and the enumeration camp began at 10 a.m.
A make-shift tent was put up in the front courtyard of the Collectorate building, where 25 government staff were deployed to help job-seekers fill pre-registration form for the fair to be held at Sri Venkateswara Engineering College, Thirupachur near Tiruvallur on November 21. Subsequently, original certificates and other documents brought by the candidates were verified by the officials at the grievance day programme hall at the main building. After verification, qualification and other details of the candidates were fed into computers and identification cards with digital image of the candidates issued.
Collector T.P. Rajesh, who supervised the filling of pre-registration form and certificate verification exercises, said that digitisation of candidates' resumes and issuance of ID cards would help them avoid bringing original documents to the employment fair, where more than 6,000 people were expected to attend the interviews to be conducted by private companies.
Around 45 leading industrial / business establishments would be participating in the fair.
