Microblogging site Twitter got a new member on Tuesday — actor Kamal Haasan finally joined the social media network.
The actor took to Twitter on Republic Day by posting a rendition of the National Anthem with the tweet ‘India’s freedom struggle remains unique even today. Respecting it is d only way to keep it & set new world standards’ (sic). His handle ‘@iKamalhaasan,’ which has been verified by Twitter, got over 8,000 followers within an hour of his page going live. His daughter and actor-singer Shruti Haasan tweeted and welcomed him to the microblogging platform.
The actor was last seen in Tamil-Telugu bilingual movies Thoongavanam and Cheekati Rajyam. Actor Rajinikanth had joined the micro-blogging site in February 2013.
While only occasionally active on the social media platform, he had recently taken to tweeting about being honoured with the Padma Vibhushan award and thanking people, including actor and politician Kushbu and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu who had wished him for the same.
